Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB) is widely used as a primary cleaning agent in household detergents due to its good biodegradability in the environment. LAB is sulfonated downstream to produce Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulfonic Acid (known as LABSA), the most cost-effective surfactant available and used primarily in household laundry and cleaning products. A small portion of LAB is used in the manufacture of inks, agricultural herbicides, the paint industry and wetting agents.
